On a cold, blustery winter afternoon, three of our intrepid team braved the bitter wind and went to the local and wonderful Borough Market and bought TheFrameworks Christmas tree. The return journey saw the tree proudly carried atop the shoulders of two of our designers through More London, passed Tower Bridge and back to our office in Butlers Wharf.
As part of the tree decorations every member of TheFrameworks London team has decorated their own giant bauble with items as weird and wonderful as bubble wrap, skittles [the sweets, not the ones from the game that closely resembles ten-pin bowling] and a marble.
And so the countdown to Christmas begins. The tree is up, the gifts are arriving – though most of them seem to be online orders for other people – have the Christmas party booked and [Secret] Santa is also due to pay us a visit – we have been good all year after all!
Our latest event from the ‘in just 60 minutes’ series featured guest speaker Steve Cram discussing “Are you ready to compete in 2012? Knowing your competitors and having the strategies and skills to go the extra mile.”
Watch the video to see footage from this successful event where Steve Cram talks about the connections between sport and business.
For five seasons between 1982 and 1986, Steve Cram enjoyed a dazzling spell of competitive success – including the demolition of Ovett’s and Coe’s world records in 1985 – winning a world, two European and three Commonwealth gold medals. Short of full fitness, he had to settle for silver behind Coe in the Los Angeles Olympics 1,500m final, but he bounced back with three world records in 19 days the following year – including history’s first sub-three-and-half minute metric mile. Steve is now the main athletics presenter for the BBC.
When Steve Cram was in full cry, one commentator likened it to “watching a Greek god on the track”.
Our London HQ is to be found in a cozy little creative hub near Tower Bridge. We are neighbours with the Design Museum - who are just around the corner – and with Conran across the road. And we do occasionally see Sir Terrance as he pops into his office – or at least catch a lingering whiff of one of his impressively large cigars.
The Design Museum and Conran have always been linked – he was instrumental in establishing the museum in 1989. And now the museum is marking Sir Terrence’s 80th birthday with a major exhibition that explores his unique impact on contemporary life in Britain.
From creating the first flat-pack furniture in Britain, promotion of the duvet, the chicken brick (yes, really) and of course, Habitat, he has arguably done more than anyone to bring design into the mainstream.
You can visit the exhibition until 4 March next year. If you do decide to go along – why not pop in to say hello to us too!
At TheFrameworks we’re never shy of mixing business with pleasure. So we thought why not organise a little surprise for James, our long-serving and ever-patient account director, who today celebrates what he described as “not a special” birthday?
The goodies in question came from our friends at Crumbs and Doilies, who have been instrumental in a couple of recent projects including a DM campaign for EC Group and a special event at IBM UK. And bloody tasty they were too.
Happy birthday James.

Twenty life-sized gorilla statues – all individually decorated by British artists have landed right by our office next to Tower Bridge. The More London exhibition will run from 16-22 September, and a charity auction will take place at 7pm in the Victoria Rooms, Clifton, Bristol on 29 September to raise money for a number of charities.
