Awareness proof starts with memory, not activity
Brand awareness is proven when the right audience can recognise, recall or name the brand more readily after exposure, not simply when a campaign earns views, clicks or comments. Build the measurement plan before launch, using a baseline and a comparable post-campaign read, or compare people exposed to the campaign with a similar unexposed audience. Track unaided awareness first, then aided awareness, brand recall, brand attribution and brand differentiation. Engagement still matters, but it is a useful signal of attention rather than proof of mental availability. A campaign can generate lively participation while leaving little lasting memory of who sponsored it. The scorecard needs to separate attention from recognition, then connect both to the campaign's clear positioning and the audience the work was meant to reach.
