Investment and community fairness share the same story
Connect the investment case to the people managing and protecting natural resources. Carbon Tanzania developed verified carbon offsets to protect forests threatened by agriculture and development, with a mission to help communities and local governments realise value from managing those resources. Its founders wanted a new brand to carry that commitment into other markets.
The brand work for Level drew on interviews across the business and its partners, which underlined the team's commitment to local communities. Equity became the organising idea: investment alongside fairness and balance. The name Level connected people and nature, investors and protectors, and increased investment with reduced environmental impact.
Make that connection visible in the communication. Level's identity paired earthy and corporate colours with citizen-led, nature-inspired photography and messaging about work under way and work still to come. The practical lesson is to build the story around commitments found in stakeholder experience, then express them consistently in words and images.
World Resources Institute reported in 2025 that payments for ecosystem services can strengthen conservation, land rights and livelihoods, but direct payments can fall short of fairly compensating Indigenous peoples and local communities for their efforts and opportunity costs.
