A future colleagues can picture
Give employees a picture of the future they can understand, supported by simple, clear choices about the direction. The purpose of the narrative is to help colleagues see something that does not yet exist and want to help create it. Draw on the people inside the organisation: a marketing manager who notices patterns, an operations director who imagines different processes, or a new colleague who questions established assumptions.
Pair that imagination with clarity. Presenting simple choices helps people see the organisation differently and develop the conviction to pursue a new direction; tried and tested strategy models and processes can help make those choices understandable.
In Staffbase's 2025 findings among employees in Australia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, 20% said leadership communication made organisational vision and strategy very clear, while 36% described it as somewhat clear. Gartner argued in 2025 that inspirational visions are less effective when employees distrust change, and advised leaders to make adaptation part of ordinary work, acknowledge interim progress and help employees manage emotional reactions.
