Define access beyond the ideal browser session
Include browser differences, device limitations, slow connections and disabled JavaScript in your website's access requirements. Inclusion means considering whether visitors can navigate the experience and reach the same information adequately, not simply whether they have an internet connection.
Assess access without assuming everyone uses the development team's browser, device or input method. Consider visitors using a keyboard rather than a mouse, alongside visually impaired visitors using browsers that read webpages aloud. A design that works in a preferred development environment can still break under other browsing conditions.
Smashing Magazine's 2025 guidance explains that ARIA support depends on the combination and versions of operating system, browser and assistive technology, so specification compliance alone does not establish that an interaction works for users. Keep reviewing technical approaches as browsers and platforms change, with access to information as the practical requirement.
