Measure commercial progress, not just visibility
Sponsorship ROI needs to show whether sponsorship is moving the brand closer to commercial outcomes, not simply generating impressions or media-equivalent value. Start with the full cost: rights fee, activation, content, events, hospitality and internal time. Then set measures across the journey, from audience overlap and brand-sport fit through to executive engagement, qualified leads, opportunity influence and closed-won revenue.
Brand measures still matter because a B2B sports sponsorship can make a complex offer more human, memorable and meaningful. But awareness alone is not a finish line. A useful sponsorship measurement scorecard links the story people see and experience with the actions target accounts take afterwards. The aim is clarity on both return on objectives and return on sponsorship investment.
