Explain whose priorities shape the systems
An AI proposition should identify whose cultures, laws and priorities the systems are intended to reflect, rather than promise adoption alone. For the Responsible AI Future Foundation (RAIFF), stakeholder interviews, collaborative workshops and market analysis identified a more specific purpose than helping countries avoid being left behind: enabling the Global South to create AI models that reflect its own cultures, laws and priorities. The resulting positioning addressed representation technically, culturally and politically, challenging the narrow worldview of dominant Western sources. The practical lesson is to investigate whose perspectives matter before defining the promise. A 2025 report by The Hindu BusinessLine argued that local-language models need to capture humour, traditions, social norms and regional challenges that Western-trained models can miss.
