Standing apart means making expertise recognisable and relevant
Differentiating a brand means giving buyers a clear reason to recognise it and consider it over alternatives. Deep expertise alone may not achieve this: a business can have a strong history and valued customer relationships yet struggle to distinguish itself in a crowded market. The practical task is to connect those strengths with something audiences can understand and care about. You need to examine the competition, listen to employees and stakeholders, and find an idea that can carry across channels. Distinctive expression needs substance, whether that comes from client partnerships, expert perspectives or a proven delivery model.
For UST, the Boundless campaign made digital transformation more human by showing the impact of its partnerships on people and communities. Boundless Stories used emotive storytelling, while Boundless Thinkers gave innovators a platform to address industry questions. Together, these programmes connected human impact with technical expertise and allowed the campaign to evolve alongside UST's advances in AI, rather than relying on a single technology message.
For 2X, the task was to make a proven B2B marketing delivery model compelling to CMOs facing pressure to achieve more with fewer resources. The approach centred on listening to employees and stakeholders and examining competitors, grounding a stronger brand presence in the business itself and the needs of its audience.
